Practical information
1. What are the Amphitheatre, Maison Carrée and Tour Magne’s opening hours?
For opening hours see “Opening hours and access”
2. I only want to visit the Arena and the Square House. How much will it cost me?
There is no combined ticket for the Arena + Square House. The combined €9.90 ticket for the 3 monuments is still the cheapest option, as the ticket for the Arena alone is €7.80 and the ticket for the Square House alone is €4.50.
3. Who is eligible for free tickets and concessions?
Children aged 7 to 17, job-seekers, teachers and students all benefit from concessions (on presentation of written proof). Children under the age of 7 and tourism professionals can get into the museum for free (on presentation of written proof).
4. Is there a discount for pensioners?
No. The full rate applies.
5. Where are the Nîmes Arena, the Square House and the Magne Tower located?
The Arena of Nîmes is located at 4 Boulevard des Arènes in the city centre.
The Square House is located at Rue du Général Perrier. You can walk from the Arena to the Square House in 5 minutes, via the pedestrianised city centre.
The Magne Tower is set in the Jardins de la Fontaine gardens in the north-west of the city. You can walk from the Square House to the Magne Tower in 15 minutes.
6. Can I get to the Magne Tower by car?
We do not recommend travelling to the Magne Tower by car, as the streets are narrow and the one-way system is very complex.
7. Does the Amphitheatre, the Maison Carrée and the Tour Magne have wheelchair access?
Only the ground floor of the Arena is accessible to the public. It includes the museum display areas (the Tauromachy and Gladiator sections), the gift shop, a viewing point over the arena and the toilets.
Due to the layout of the monuments, access to the interior of the Square House and the Magne Tower is unfortunately not possible. The monuments remain visible from the outside.
8. How many steps are there up to the Maison Carré and the Tour Magne?
There are 15 steps to the Maison Carré and 140 to the Tour Magne.
9. Are pushchairs permitted in the Amphitheatre, the Maison Carrée and the Tour Magne?
Pushchairs are allowed in the Arena. They can be left in the main gallery by the ticket office. This space is unsupervised, so do not leave anything inside them.
Pushchairs are allowed in the Square House. There are around fifteen steps to climb to reach the square in front of the House.
Due to the layout of the monument, pushchairs are not allowed in the Magne Tower. They can be left outside, but will be unsupervised.
10. Is there a cloakroom available?
No.
11. Can the gift shop be accessed separately from the Amphiteatre?
Yes, during Amphitheatre opening hours.
12. Does the gift shop remain open during the ferias?
Yes, from 9 a.m to 9 p.m.
13. Can I come to the Amphitheatre, the Maison Carrée and the Tour Magne with my dog?
Animals are not allowed in the Arena and the Magne Tower, unless they are carried in a bag. At the Square House, animals are not allowed in the projection room.
14. In what languages is the audio-guide available?
The audio-guide is available in 8 languages: French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Japanese and Chinese. The audio-guided tour takes 1 and half hours.
15. Is there an audio-guide for the Maison Carré and the Magne Tower?
No, but inside the Square House you can view a 3D film that takes you back to the heroic past of the city of Nîmes. At the top of the Magne Tower, a large viewpoint indicator shows how the city would have looked in Roman times, and on the ground floor, the history of the Tower is illustrated on large panels.
16. How long does the visit last?
The visit takes at least 3 and a half hours for the 3 monuments (route included).
17. Are there guided tours for individual visitors?
Yes, but only during the summer. They are provided by the Tourist Office, at no extra charge and without reservation (limited to the number of places available). The tour departs from the Arena (at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm).
18. When can I see the gladiator shows?
During the Great Roman Games, the annual great living history event put on in the Arena. Groups of more than 20 people can also watch gladiator shows all year round (on reservation).
